Ancient Yews 2 (Abergwesyn)

A further exploration of the ancient trees of Powys, Wales.

I was aware that Wales had a great many of the ancient yews recorded in the British Isles, but was very surprised, (and delighted), to find so many amazing yews within a short journey of my new home. Abergwesyn is a small village in the hills less than ten miles away. An old churchyard located on the bend of a river, it contains two groves of old yews, some of which are undoubtedly grown from the same root system. Likely that some of these trees are well over two thousnad years old if this is the case, as the remaining trunks would have been at the outer edges of the original trunk, which over the centuries often becomes hollow and rots away.
